The liner HESSEN was launched on September 18, 1903 and was in active service from 1905 to 1916. From 1917 to 1918 it was part of the ship in Brunsbüttel. From 1925 the liner was in active service with the Reichsmarine for 10 years. Then the Hessen was converted into a remote-controlled target ship. After the war in 1945, the ship was taken over by Russia and renamed TSEL.
