  • The GOLDENFELS was built in 1937 at Bremer Vulkan for DDG Hansa in Bremen. On September 3, 1939, the freighter was drafted into the Navy and converted into the auxiliary cruiser HSK 2 / Schiff 16 at Deschimag, Bremen. The pirate voyage of the high-powered cruiser ATLANTIS began on March 11, 1940. The auxiliary cruiser was surprised by the British heavy cruiser Devonshire while supplying U 126. Badly damaged by artillery hits, the crew sank the auxiliary cruiser itself.
