  • The refrigerated ship PANTHER, like the sister ship PUMA, was built in 1930 at the Bremer Vulkan shipyard for the African Frucht Compagnie AG. The ships were used in the banana voyage between Cameroon and Hamburg. In 1938 both ships were bought by the Navy and converted into a fleet tender. The tenders were put back into service under the names LECH and ISAR. In 1947 the ex PANTHER was converted into a passenger ship in Italy and was given the name MARE LIGURE. From 1949 to 1963 the ship operated as ARTSA under the Israeli flag. The ex PUMA passed into Soviet ownership after the end of the war.
